Over-the-Top design takes over this dazzling Cocoon Coat, made from one whole gold raw silk piano shawl shot with multi-color silk slubs, hemmed with chunky gold rayon fringe. The claret red silk collar is heavily reinforced to stand high like a silent film star, or lie flat on the shoulders. Actual vintage brown cotton/silk Victorian loop closures trim the coat on four sides.

As currently sewn, the coat fits a dress size Medium (10-12) best. The coat is literally a rectangular shawl that has been strategically anchored to an inner hip band that floats inside. Alterations can be made by adding more length to the center back of the band and rearranging the pleats of the coat to fit larger sizes. Coat cannot be made again, although more plain silk slub finged shawls are available for the asking.

My days as a costume designer in Regional Theatre are now 25 years behind me, which means I've been doing contemporary and retro clothing design for a quarter century. About 7 years ago, a local Mardi Gras Krewe approached me about doing a runway show to raise money for charity. The theme was "Roaring 20's", which is a period I love for fashion. I said yes because I thought it would be fun, even though I knew the outfits would likely hang on my sale rack for years...the remaining 5 from the original 12 in what I named "The Speakeasy Collection" are now here on the "Boomerang" site. They can't be made again, and they only come in the size and color you see here. They are not previously worn, aside from the fashion show. Great for Theatre, cosplay, or even street wear with a period vibe.
